Participation

Delegates

Delegates must be in Years 7 - 9 (Grades 6 - 8), and no previous MUN experience is necessary. At the conference, each committee will have one delegate per country. Once delegation assignments are released, MUN Directors may choose which committee their students will participate in. In the case of large delegations where there may be more countries assigned to one school, the number of delegates per country and available committees will be given.

Prior to the conference, delegates are required to research their assigned countries in order to represent them effectively in debate. They must also research their individual topics and prepare draft resolutions to be merged during lobbying. Delegates are also expected to be familiar with debate procedures, although committee Chairs will assist all delegates. Our Delegate Guide is available at the Delegate section of our website and contains preparation and research guidelines, a sample resolution, the official DIMUN debate procedures and other relevant information.

Committee Chairs

At DIMUN, each committee will have two experienced KS4/5 (High School) MUN students acting as Chairs and will be expected to create a constructive learning environment for delegates through guidance and encouragement. Chairs must be thoroughly familiar with THIMUN debate procedure (the specific DIMUN debate procedures will be released closer to the conference) in order to explain them to younger delegates and to facilitate debate. Chairs are also responsible for checking submitted resolutions for plagiarism and other general errors before they are sent to the Approval Panel.

Chairs should maintain a professional manner throughout the conference and lead by example. Strict standards for dress, language, and general behaviour must be observed at all times. Prior to the conference, Chairs must become completely conversant with their assigned topics, so that they may act as experts during debate. Furthermore, each Chair will also have to write two research reports for two of their four topics, to will aid delegates in their research.

Benjamin Tan, the Secretary-General, will be the communicating with the Chairs during and prior to the conference. As the conference draws nearer, a comprehensive Chair Guide will given to the student officers and will contain all of the necessary details for the Chairs.

Appointments to the twelve chairing positions may be viewed here.

Press Journalists

We will be accepting applications from students in Years 7-10, Grades 6-9 to be on the DIMUN II press team. The DIMUNITE press team reports on what happens during the conference and produces a daily newspaper edition which is distributed to the conference delegates each morning. Articles on the conference, current world issues, as well as other miscellaneous articles and items (including games, cartoons, and pictures) will be included in each edition. Other members of the press team will include editors, photographers and layout designers. The press team will be expected to meet their daily deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality in their pieces - we aim to create the most realistic and professional press experience for participants. There are 15 journalist positions available. More information, including application forms is available for download here.

Please take note that Chairs and Press participants will be required to attend an important briefing during the evening of Thursday, 23rd February, 2012 - the day before DIMUN II opens. Thus, if you are traveling with younger delegates, please be prepared to make appropriate travel arrangements for Press or Chair participants.
