An Introduction to Model United NationsThe Model United Nations (MUN) programme offers students a chance to participate in a conference, which simulates the real United Nations. Delegates represent countries just like in the real UN, and are also expected to do research on their topics and country positions. At MUN conferences, delegates representing different countries collaborate to create resolutions and then proceed to debate on important world issues such as the safe disposal of nuclear waste, the stability of Somalia, and preventing desertification. Unlike in conventional debates, the ultimate goal of MUN is to debate constructively in order to create the most effective, acceptable, and applicable solutions to world issues. MUN conferences such as DIMUN II give Middle and High School students the unique chance to debate following proper UN procedures and learn how to become tomorrow’s leaders. Through this activity, participants have the opportunity to improve their public speaking, research, and diplomatic skills. MUN aims to encourage debate and sharing of views between students from different backgrounds, thus promoting global awareness and an understanding of international relations. Delegate Information and ResourcesCommittees and topics have been published and can be viewed here. Research reports that will aid delegates in their research will be made available by mid-December, 2011. The download link to our Delegate Preparation Guide can be found below, with specific recommendations for delegates in terms of preparing for the DIMUN conference, and should be used by delegates and Directors alike. Topics include guidelines for research, resolution-writing, materials to bring, dress code, and student conduct. General debate procedures that will be adhered to by all Chairs will also be included. All delegates should familiarise themselves with the procedures outlined in the guide, but will be explained by committee Chairs in greater detail at the beginning of the DIMUN conference. Below you will also find another document, How to Write a Resolution. This is an introduction to resolution-writing that all delegates are recommended to read. Queries regarding a resolution's formatting, draft resolution requirements, and the purpose of resolutions can be answered with this comprehensive document. To download the following documents, please right click and select "Save" the below links: We wish all delegates good luck in their preparations! And if individual delegates have any further questions, we strongly encourage them to write to dimun@dulwich-beijing.cn. The Secretary-General will answer you as soon as possible! |
